A double European champ at just
21 years old, fresh faced Andreas Bakkerud has collected more silverware and shredded
more tyres than many Rallycross racers can dream about in an entire career.
However the path to the top hasn’t come easy for the young Norwegian charger,
and it has only been through sheer guts and determination that he is now
freshly signed to Monster Energy, and taking on the 2013 FIA European
Rallycross Championship in a 600bhp Citroen DS3 Supercar.
Nicknamed ‘Baby Blue’, Andreas
set his sights on becoming a pro racer ever since he was given a go-kart at
nine years old. “I went straight to my neighbour and asked for sponsorship”
recalls Andreas. “Ever since then, I’ve just worked my ass off, because it’s
tough to get to the top in racing, and I really hate to lose.”
By the time he turned 18, Andreas
had already locked down an impressive collection of Karting results in Norway,
as well as successfully graduating to cars and blasting to 3rd in
the Super1600 European Rallycross championship. Off-track he was also crowned
Norway’s 2010 Young Driver of the Year which brought in much needed sponsorship.
After that he was unstoppable.
Having secured the funds for another all-out assault on the Super1600 series,
Andreas went on to decimate the competition and take back-to-back European
titles in 2011 and 2012. His smooth and aggressive style is not only super fast
but awesome to watch, and has also made him a huge crowd favourite.
Teaming up with former X-games
Champ and Monster athlete Liam Doran, 2013 will truly be the year that Baby
Blue grows claws and tears down the competition. Watch this space.
