After a year of learning the nuances and the best way to manhandle the powerful Kawasaki KX450F Tommy Searle confronts just his second season in the premier MXGP class of the FIM Motocross World Championship and is still the UK’s best bet for a world title since 2001.

The 24 year old (25 in June) was chasing the pack and sometimes his own tail in 2013 as he sought the most effective set-up to fight for podium positions in the competitive MXGP (then MX1) category. The Brit characterised his season with some exciting and ruthless charges through the field but has digested plenty of information and craft with his CLS team (with whom he starts his fourth racing term) to position himself as a regular front-runner in 2014. Searle came close to championship success in 2012 when he pushed Jeffrey Herlings all the way to the MX2 crown in what was a thrilling, dicey and often bitter duel of bar-banging and words. A multiple Grand Prix winner, Searle is due a title since his exciting debut at the highest level in 2006 when he grabbed a podium at Matterley Basin for his home Grand Prix. Six years later, and via an AMA adventure in which injuries problems derailed any clear attempt to conquer America, Searle took the roof off the Winchester venue with his ’12 MX2 GP victory. Funny, accessible and fast, Tommy is a special part of the Monster Energy MX crew and much more is expected of Britain’s number one in 2014.
