Proof positive that Idaho produces more than just potatoes, 23-year old Sun Valley native Kaitlyn Farrington has blossomed into a competitive halfpipe rider with world-class snowboard skills. Though she has stood atop more podiums for Superpipe than Slopestyle, Kaitlyn rides everything—including horses—since she grew up on a ranch. But back in fifth grade she traded in her saddle for a snowboard and began the journey she is on today. For the past few seasons, Kaitlyn has worked to balance her Slopestyle efforts with her Superpipe as well as balancing the life of a pro rider with college studies. With the goal of making the US Team for the Olympic Games in Sochi 2014, Kaitlyn has sharpened her focus on pipe and the formidable task of chipping away at a peer group of competitors who have been dominating the discipline for years. And for the 2012/13 season, she is off to a great start. Linking up back-to-back 900s for the first time in her runs at the Dew Tour in Breckenridge, Kaitlyn walked away with a huge early season win. The addition of new trick combos and the confidence-boost of the high profile victory at Breck may be exactly what she needs to see her Olympic team dream come true.
