About Destry

The veteran off roader out of Arizona keeps chugging away, and winning, as this past year Abbott won an amazing FIFTH AMA Hare & Hound Series title, ranking him up there with the likes of desert racing legends Danny Hamel and Dan Smith. Abbott was also a key part of the ’08 Team USA’s International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) bronze medal (America’s first ISDE medal since 1982). But maybe his most notable award last year came when Abbott won the AMA’s Sportsman of the Year in ’08 – honoring his character on and off the track, including one case where he stopped, during a race, to be with a fallen rider until help arrived. A consistent top-ten placer on the World Off Road Championship Series (WORCS), Abbott also contests the new AMA EnduroCross series. But it has been desert racing where Abbott excelled the most, winning four Hard & Hound races in ’08 and earning another three additional podiums. Abbott has also won three Best In The Desert (BITD) titles throughout his long-running off road career.
