Joan “Nani” Roma

Known simply as ‘Nani’ to his fans and teammates, Joan Roma is a true Dakar Rally heavyweight. With 16 Rally Dakar starts to his name, as well as an overall win in the motorbike category in 2004, few drivers can claim to know the world’s most brutal endurance event as well as Monster Energy’s Spanish racer.

Starting out his racing career on two wheels, Nani’s fast and powerful riding style quickly netted him successes in the ‘91 Spanish Junior Enduro, and ‘93 Senior European Enduro championships. As well as getting his first taste of the Dakar in ‘96, Nani hauled in podiums in countless races around the globe including the Baja’s in Tunisia, Aragón, Dubai, Morocco, and Egypt.

After locking down a Dakar Motorbike win in 2004, Nani switched to four wheels. Teaming up with French co-driver Michel Périn – a three time Dakar winner himself – Nani won the 2005 Baja España Aragón. His biggest success on four wheels however came in the 2012 Dakar, when Nani finished a close second to Monster Energy X-raid MINI ALL4 Racing teammate Stéphane Peterhansel. Narrowly missing out on a podium in the 2013 Dakar, Nani and co-driver Périn will be racing with the Monster Energy X-raid MINI ALL4 Team again this year, and will be fully focused on taking the top step in the 2014 Dakar.
