Stéphane Peterhansel

When you think of Dakar Rally legends, the first name to come to mind would be Monster Energy’s Stéphane Peterhansel.

Stéphane has tasted victory 11 times in motorsport’s most gruelling race, six times in the motorbike category and now five in the car class - which is why he’s one of the sports all time greats. Like fellow Monster athlete Nani Roma, Stéphane started his career on two wheels but after owning that category he switched to cars, and he’s made his four–wheel career just as successful.

His first Dakar win came five years after making the switch, 2004, and he went on to take gold in 2005 and 2007 too, while he narrowly missed out on the podium in the races in between.

Over 25 years he’s won pretty much everything there is to win and currently holds the Dakar Rally title after winning his second consecutive championship in 2013. Alongside his trusty co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret, Peterhansel has dominated the last two races and he has worked all season to try and make it a hat-trick of wins in 2014.
