With news of the NEW YORK DOLLS first Australian appearance in five years tickets have been in high demand! The influential 70s glam rock outfit reach our shores in October to headline the boutique New York-inspired arts and cultural showcase, The Boroughs.          

This year, Melbourne and Sydney will stage flagship events, celebrating New York’s important influences across art, film, fashion, skate and of course, music. In addition to New York Dolls spearheading The Boroughs, a host of Australia’s freshest talent have been announced to round-out the music component.

In Melbourne at the unique Globe Skate Headquarters on October 8, The Hello Morning, Fearless Vampire Killers, DEJA, The Bonniwells, Passport For Amy, Ghost Mutt and Masketa Fall will take the stage. At Sydney’s Manning Bar on October 15, the New York Dolls will be joined by Straight Arrows, Bonvines (The Vines DJ set), Fait Accompli, The Salvagers and Bloody Audreys.

In both Sydney and Melbourne this year, you can expect to walk into an urban streetscape representative of the industrial edge of New York. From the main-stage area where bands and DJs play, or wander through alleyways to discover bars, art installations, galleries, cinemas, market stalls and fashion displays.     

Building on the success of The Boroughs art gallery concept in 2010, 2011 will see The Boroughs roll out a host of competitions leading up to the event in the fields of art, music, skate, film and fashion. Brisbane’s event takes place at the Hi-Fi on October 13 with Velociraptor, Millions and The Hits in support. The Volcanics and The Painkillers will play in Perth at the Capitol Theatre on October 7. In Adelaide on October 9 at Fowlers Live, Fire! Santa Rosa Fire! and Generation Swine hit the stage. 

Without doubt, the perfect cultural fit for The Boroughs is one of New York’s most influential musical exports, the New York Dolls. Formed in 1971, the raw, pioneering punk outfit and its mainstay members, David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain, paved the way for music to come. In 2010 in a castle in the North of England, the two worked together on a new Dolls album (their fifth to date) titled ‘Dancing Backwards In High Heels.’
