David O`Caoimh

David O’Caoimh has been on the water since he was five years old. His parents were wind surfers but when there wasn’t any wind they looked for alternative water sports. David started out water skiing and then switched to wakeboarding when he was ten.

A totally passionate wakeboarder, David rides all year round on the cold water of Ireland’s Lough Sillan – unless it’s frozen! When he gets the opportunity he loves to ride at Xtreme Gene in Spain, at Bordalign in South Africa, and of course in Orlando - the wakeboarders’ Mecca.

David has been representing Ireland since he was 14 years old and hopes to see wakeboarding get into the Olympics. The now 18 year old has been the Irish Open Men’s Champion for three years and has a slew of titles to his name, from podiums at the IWWF European and World Championships, to winning the highly competitive Wakestock UK last year. He also competes at the Wakeboard World Cup with the world’s top athletes and managed to take 5th place in Australia earlier this year.

David rides the O’Brien Coda, which he loves for its aggressiveness and pop. His favourite trick is a simple Indy backside 180. Landing his first invert, a backroll, when he was 12, he’s currently working on a Toeside Backside 9 and is looking forward to the upcoming Europe/Africa Championships in Ukraine.

His most memorable wakeboarding experience?
‘Well not quite wakeboarding but last year I went tow-in surfing on my board in South Africa. It was the craziest feeling ever being thrown around by the waves and also a bit intimidating due to the fact that there were no shark nets!!!’.

Off the water David loves fooling about on a trampoline or a snowboard if he can get the time.
