Over the past few years, the American Midwest has become something of a talent mill for street-minded shredders. These days, the ranks of professional snowboarding are full off Midwest transplants, who all eventually took their game out west where the winters aren’t quite so cold and the terrain has a bit more to offer. Ethan Deiss, a talented kid from Osceola, Wisconsin is the latest phenom from these frozen flatlands. Growing up riding the barely slanted slopes of his beloved Trollhaugen, where he could take literally a hundred runs a day, Ethan quickly evolved into a rail-wrecking, spin-on, spin-off technician with enviable board control and a deep bag of tricks. Local buzz and a few incredible viral videos put Ethan on the map in 2009, and the following year he signed on with the TransWorld crew, filming for In Color. This movie part and a growing recognition of his talent landed him on the Burton team this year, where he continued his filming, working on both VG’s Retrospect, Burton’s Standing Sideways, and friends movie called Givin’. To say it’s been a big year for Ethan is an understatement—the crazy thing is, he’s just getting started.
