Jorge Lorenzo is a motorcycle racer with arguably the greatest appetite for success on and off the track and with two MotoGP and two 250cc World Championships in his locker, needs no introduction to bike fans.
His meteoric rise to occupying the billing of fastest rider on the planet began the day he was allowed to enter World Championship racing. Jorge entered the 125cc Grand Prix class on his fifteenth birthday on board a Derbi. After mixing it up in the junior class for two years and picking up his first GP win, Jorge entered the 250cc series in 2005 and took it to town. After a strong debut season the number 99 dominated the rest of the pack, and scooped two consecutive world titles in the following years (2006 and 2007). He collected 17 wins and 23 podiums in 33 starts in his championship winning two years in the 250cc class. Pretty emphatic to say the least.
The sheer dominance of the 250cc class had him earmarked as the future star in MotoGP and he wasn`t short of options for a ride. Ultimately it was Yamaha who gave him his dream ticket to the big league and he`s relished the challenge. Having competed in the top class for five years, Jorge’s stellar career has seen him never finish outside the top four in the championship standings. He paid his dues in his rookie year after a blazing start (3 pole positions and 3 podiums) before injuries stalled his progress, however his championship credentials were laid out for all to see. In the four years since he`s finished second twice and collected two championship trophies . His smooth as butter riding style and ruthless worth ethic mean this is no more of a racer committed to throwing everything at his craft, than the rocket man from Malaga.
This year Jorge lines up again on the Monster Energy backed Factory Yamaha team ready to defend his 2012 title.
