Jamie Goldman rides a mountain bike like his fellow Monster BMX brethren rip around on their graduated Sting Rays. Jumps higher than your house, with flips and spins, most of the time pulled in front of a handful of buddies, maybe some spectators. Freestyle MTB is working its way upward, maybe a bit slowly, but with guys like Goldman it’s getting there. Case-in-point: Last year’s Bearclaw Invitational up in B.C., Canada. A hodge-podge of obstacles and hits – including something they called the “Super Hairy Log Boner” (we’re not making this up) – made for one of the must core MTB stops on the tour and drew enough fans to fill up the only hotel in the region. Long story short, Goldman stomped it and won. We were afraid to ask him what the trophy was, given the liberties they take with naming obstacles, but Goldman was for sure stoked on winning as he also took home like ten grand Canadian (which is like $60,000 U.S. now or something). MTB slopestyle has a core following of its own – guys that could probably care less if they’re ever in the X Games or not. And come to think of it, why? Look at how much fun Goldman and them get to have running things underground.
