Monster Energy Wins 12th Arenacross Race of the Season

The ninth weekend of racing for the AMA Arenacross series took place last weekend, with a one night event in Lexington, Kentucky. Monster Energy rider Tyler Bowers came in to the round ready to put on a show for his home state crowd.

Monster Energy rider Chad Johnson also came to Kentucky ready to put in work in an attempt to gain back valuable points in the race for the 2012 Arenacross championship, while Bowers looked to extend his points lead over the rest of the field.

As the gate dropped for the main event on saturday, Jeff Gibson jumped into the lead, with Tyler Bowers close behind. Gibson and Bowers swapped positions until Bowers was able to make the pass stick on lap eleven. Bowers cruised on to take his tenth win of the season. Chad Johnson battled back from a tough start, working his way up to a sixth place finish.

"I had a bad start tonight," Chad Johnson said following the main event saturday, "I came up through the pack and was making up time until the half way point we started to have some troubles. Not sure exactly what was going on but we quit going forward and started going backward. We´re gonna head home this week, do some riding, hang out with the kids, and head for California."

"I got good starts, I´ve been working hard on those lately." Bowers explained after the race, " I got out in front of Jeff and felt great, and then my roommate Zach Ames started to sneak up on me at the end of the moto, I had no idea he was there. So it was cool to get a 1-2 finish with him. I had a great weekend here at home with family and friends and to get the win means a lot. We´ll head back to California happy and ready to finish out the last three rounds of the series."

Tyler Bowers now holds a 21-point lead over Jeff Gibson, with his Monster Energy teammate Chad Johnson third place in the standings. The series heads to the west coast next weekend, where the action will pick back up in Fresno, California on February 11th.
