New Zealand
It’s not every day that a rider from New Zealand takes the snowboard world by storm. But Zoi Sadowski-Synnott did just that: The young rookie sent a shock to the system by claiming Slopestyle gold at X Games Aspen 2019, although barely scraping into the competition as a second alternate. She continued her run by winning every single big-ticket event of the season, including the FIS World Championships and Burton U.S. Open, and even found time to finish her high school diploma. On the strength of her breakout season, the Kiwi ripper was recognized as Rookie of the Year in the inaugural Snowboarder Magazine Awards in 2020 and already became a national treasure by ending New Zealand’s 26-year Winter Olympics medal draught with her Slopestyle bronze at PyeongChang 2018. Continuing her epic run, she dominated the final at X Games Norway 2020 to claim her second Slopestyle gold. Not exactly a name that rolls off the tongue, but make sure to remember Zoi Sadowski-Synnott because she’s only getting started…
