Van Horebeek set for MXGP launch after Italian Championship finish

Monster Energy Yamaha factory MXGP rider Jeremy Van Horebeek ended a strong pre-season spell of ‘cobweb removal’ and final tests to square-off the three-round 2017 Italian motocross championship as runner-up and claimed a moto victory in the last outing at Ottobiano, south of Milan last weekend.

The 27 year old has looked in a confident and comfortable mood with the works YZ450FM since the launch of the series three weeks ago and has walked the second step in every fixture stretching from Sardinia to Rome to Milan. Van Horebeek has also outperformed teammate Romain Febvre, the 2015 World Champion, and who notched a best result of fourth at Ottobiano to take a sizeable slice of good vibes and confidence ahead of the MXGP opener in Qatar in less than two weeks.

JVH ran to his first chequered flag in the MX1 race after main protagonist Tony Cairoli suffered a crash together with Evgeny Bobryshev.

“I’ve been going really easy in these races… and that’s what makes me feel pretty positive about the start of the season; that I can take these kind of results against some of the other GP guys without pushing too much or too hard,” he said. “I cannot thank my team enough for the work we have done with the bike. I have the engine I want and I believe we have the full package.”

 

Meanwhile at the LaCapelle Marival International in France Monster Energy Kawasaki went 1-2 in the final results with Clement Desalle taking the top step from Jordi Tixier. Kemea Yamaha’s Benoit Paturel owned the MX2 class on what was a windy day in the south.

 

Most of the teams will already be sending equipment and freight out to Doha and the Losail circuit for the first Grand Prix of nineteen on Saturday February 25th.
