Skiing has always been about the pursuit of freedom for Sammy Carlson. The Oregon native came up as part of a new generation pushing the boundaries of freeski according to their own imagination. In 2010, Sammy became the first skier to stomp a switch triple rodeo 1260 at his local park, Mount Hood. A regular on contest podiums, he earned Slopestyle gold at X Games Aspen 2011. But when the evolution of slopestyle courses fell short of his progression, Sammy chose a road less traveled: He walked away from competition at the top of his game to chase the infinite freedom of riding in the backcountry. Since then, his insane powder drops as well as moves across natural terrain and backcountry booters, showcased in viral videos such as ‘The Sammy C Project’ and ‘Over Time’, have inspired riders across the globe. Sammy’s backcountry skills have earned the highest accolades of the sport, including multiple Powder and Freeskier Magazine ‘Skier of the Year’ Awards as well as three X Games Real Ski Backcountry wins. Not that he cares about that kind of thing… Always looking for new challenges, Sammy Carlson is out there in the endless backcountry exploring, filming and letting his mind-boggling skiing speak for itself.
