They call him “The Phenom” for a reason: Hailing from Goiânia, Brazil, Douglas Lima has built an unparalleled career in mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting. After relocating to the United States, Lima began building his skills in Brazilian jujutsu while in high school in Georgia and soon built an impressive record of wins. This led to a steep rise through the ranks of American Fight League, World Extreme Cagefighting and finally the Maximum Fighting Championship Welterweight title in 2010. The legend grew wings once Lima joined the Bellator MMA promotion in 2011 and earned the Bellator Welterweight Championship for the first time in 2014. After battling injuries and setbacks, the knockout artist reclaimed the title in 2016 and for the third time in 2019 by winning the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix and $1 million prize. Instead of resting on his laurels, Lima passes on the art of fighting to future generations: Together with his brother, current UFC Welterweight contender Dhiego Lima, the Phenom runs his own gym in Lawrenceville, Georgia, as part of the American Top Team family of MMA schools. And as a lifelong student of martial arts, the three-time Bellator MMA Welterweight World Champion keeps sharpening his skills together with Brazilian MMA icon Roan Carneiro. What do you call a fighter who keeps getting more dangerous by the day? That’s right, a true Phenom!
