Amaury Pierron and Loris Vergier Win Silver and Bronze at Mountain Bike Downhill World Championships
Amidst a massive chaotic French crowd, local heroes Amaury Pierron and Loris Vergier took home the silver and bronze medals respectively at the 2022 Mountain Bike Downhill World Championships in Les Gets, France in a historic French sweep of the podium. Pierron came in as the standout Frenchman given his domination of the 2022 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup and fact that he won in Les Gets in 2019, but he would have to settle for silver losing to now five-time World Champion Loïc Bruni. Teammate Troy Brosnan missed the podium, taking fourth place.
Eli Tomac Wins the 2022 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship
When the pressure was on, so was Eli Tomac. The veteran four-time outdoor Motocross champion joined an elite class of FIVE-TIME Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships winners, taking a one-point premier 450 class lead into the final round over Chase Sexton (Honda) and making an absolute statement as to who’s the best with a bold, 1-1 two-moto finish at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, on Saturday.
Tomac’s performance in the arid (temperatures teetering at or above triple digits) region near Carlsbad, California, the birthplace of American motocross racing, was nothing short of superhuman – as was Sexton’s as well. In the opening moto the two distanced themselves from the rest of the field and went 1-2 – with the next-closest competitor (3rd place Christian Craig) being an unheard of one minute and 17 seconds behind. Tomac and Sexton, in their feverous pursuit of the championship, lapped the field all the way up to 11th place (out of 40 racers that started).
Filipe Toledo Is The 2022 Surfing World Champion
“It just felt like Filipe’s day all day.”
That’s what Kelly Slater, the greatest surfer of all time, said as the clock ticked down on the final heat of the WSL season. But really, it wasn’t just Filipe’s day, it was his year.
Having made the finals in 5 out of the 10 events, and winning two of them, Filipe had an incredibly dominant 2022. Historically, he probably would have clinched the world title before even making it to Tahiti, but with the WSL’s new format that mandates a one-day surf off from the top-5 surfers in the world, he had to rise to the occasion. To win on the day.
Team USA Wins Motocross des Nations
The 75th running of the world’s most prestigious motocross event, the Motocross des Nations held at famed American professional motocross venue RedBud MX in Buchanan, Mich., was won on Sunday by an All-Monster Energy team of racers representing USA – Eli Tomac, Chase Sexton, and Justin Cooper. This added to the United States’ record win total (23) and breaking an 11-year drought (2010, Lakewood, Colo.) since the USA last won the coveted MXdN Chamberlain Trophy.
Rayssa Leal Wins 2022 SLS Super Crown World Championship
We have a new World Champion! Rayssa Leal took first place in the 2022 SLS Super Crown World Championship in Rio de Janeiro this weekend. Cheered on by a hometown crowd, the 14-year-old from Imperatriz, Brazil, claimed the first world championship title of her career after remaining unbeaten throughout the entire 2022 Street League Skateboarding (SLS) World Tour competition season.
Brittany Force: 2 Time NHRA Champion
The 2022 NHRA season has wrapped with an incredible final race in Pamona. To bring it to the next level, Brittany has achieved legend status by holding all of the top 10 fastest Top Fuel speeds in NHRA history.
Jared Mees Crowned '22 AMA Grand National Champion
Uniquely U.S.A., flat track (aka “dirt track”) parallels the incredibly popular FIM Speedway racing that regularly packs soccer stadiums throughout Europe, although those bikes weigh around a third of an AMA flat tracker and maybe hit 60-70 mph. And now standing very near the top of the greatest flat track racers of all-time, harking back to the “On Any Sunday” era of the 1960s, racing great Mert Lawwill - is Monster Energy’s own Jared Mees.
