Marking the thirteenth round of the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship, the Monster Energy MXGP of Flanders signed, sealed, and delivered the goods in front of thousands of Belgian MX fans whilst seeing massive performances from Romain Febvre and Jago Geerts as they continue their recent winning streak with unstoppable force at Lommel.

Well known as one of the toughest circuits on the MXGP calendar, the new track layout made racing even more precarious for even the most seasoned of riders. First up, current leader of the 2023 EMX125 Championship was Latvian wunderkind Janis Reisulis, with a solid ride into first position, subtly proving his breakout win at Lommel in ‘22 was no fluke, Reisulis finished a full 31 points ahead of Mathis Valin as just two rounds remain on the EMX125 Championship.

In MX2 it was local hero and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team’s Jago Geerts, who cleaned up with a flawless 1-1-1. Sporting an awesome new look on the limited edition 50th anniversary retro inspired YZ livery and kit, Geerts once again took full command of the race whilst pinning flat-out to victory throughout the entire weekend, making this his third GP win in a row to close in on Adamo in the Championship and reducing the gap to a mere 13 points.

Jago Geerts - “I’m really happy with the weekend, I couldn’t be happier with 60 points in front of my home fans. It was a great weekend; the track was tough, but I enjoyed every second out there. It’s also looking good for the Championship, and I have to continue like this for the next races and we’ll see how it goes”.

In MXGP it was Monster Energy and Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre who stormed his way to an incredible fourth consecutive GP victory with a phenomenal ride in the second moto. After a bad start Febvre had to make some serious pace when he found himself near the back of the pack after the first couple of corners. On a notoriously tough track where overtaking is a massive challenge, Febvre showed his experience to finish strong with a 1-2 after that heroic run during race 2.

Romain Febvre - “It was again a great weekend as I felt good on the bike and the track since Saturday. The new layout made it more technical which helped to make the difference. The first race was really good as I made a comfortable gap at the front to win the race. In the second race after the bad start I worked some magic in the sand with a good pace until the end. I was exhausted in the end so I could not catch Prado. I’m very happy, not many people have ever won four-in-a-row; that is something special.”

Rounding out the podium in MXGP was Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team’s Glenn Coldenhoff who fought hard to earn the third-place spot on the podium, confirming his recent form as one of the most consistent riders on the gate. Glenn Coldenhoff - “I’m really happy to be on the podium. It was a good weekend. I ride with more consistency now and more often at the front. The track was tough but I love sand tracks as I kind of grew up on them. Now I want to build on this performance and really want to win a GP. I need to win one soon, and I’ll do all I can to get this GP win”

All roads lead to Vantaa as the Championship next heads to the MXGP of Finland this coming weekend, where in ’22 we saw the memorable Monster Energy Yamaha MXGP podium sweep from Glenn Coldenhoff, Jeremy Seewer and Maxime Renaux.
