Gearoid McDaid’s 2023/24 season has been a rollercoaster of triumphs and setbacks. After starting 2023 recovering from a significant injury, McDaid made an impressive comeback, finishing second at the European Championships. This strong result showed his resilience, but as with surfing, success can be unpredictable.

While the high of placing second gave McDaid momentum, the following months brought tough results. The ups and downs of competitive surfing tested him, but McDaid stayed focused, especially when he got to surf some of the best waves of his life at Mullaghmore in early 2024. However, the thrill of big-wave surfing came with risks, and McDaid recently suffered another injury—a serious cut to his shin that set him back again.

Despite this new challenge, McDaid remains hopeful. He’s using the time to heal and rebuild, with plans to come back even stronger for the next winter season in Ireland. With his determination, McDaid is ready to push forward and chase bigger waves and greater success.
