Freddie Lindgren wins his 4th Swedish National Speedway title

Since “Swedish National Speedway Champion” has such a nice ring to it, Monster Energy’s Frederik “Freddie” Lindgren decided to add a fourth.

With Swedish National Championship wins in 2018, ’21 and the defending National Championship (’23), Lindgren stayed on the gas – with no brakes – and won this past weekend’s national event in Vastervik, securing 14 points in his five heat races before winning the main event to earn his fourth Swedish National Speedway title.

Satisfying, yet somewhat unexpected as Lindgren has, admittedly, been struggling a bit through the first three rounds of the FIM World Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) this season.

“So I’ve been in Sweden for a couple of days for the individual Swedish Championships,” said the world’s reigning No. 2 SGP racer. “And as I’ve been going through a bit of a rough time lately (racing SGP), we had a big testing day over the weekend and managed to iron out a few problems with my equipment. So I kind of came into the (Swedish) Championship with new hope. The intention was really to get a good feeling back on the bike, hopefully get a few heat wins and feel fast again. And it went even better than that."

In the finals Lindgren topped countrymen Kim Nilsson, Filip Hjelmland and Philip Hellstrom-Bangs for the title.

Added Lindgren: “I’ve got a really, really good feeling on the bike and it was super nice to race in front of the home fans… the Swedish fans. And since I don’t race regularly in the Swedish League, it was really nice to show myself in front of the Swedish fans."

Overall a few really good days. Weather was awesome. Fans were great. And we’re really happy to be crowned the overall Swedish champion again in 2024.”

Monster Energy FIM SGP Overall Season Standings (after 3 of 11 rounds)

2nd – Jack Holder (48 points)

6th – Dan Bewley (28 points)

8th – Freddie Lindgren (26 points)

13th – Tai Woffinden (16 points)
