Webb and Deegan Dominate Dallas Triple Crown!

Published On: 2/24/2025

Star Racing/Yamaha’s Webb locks down his second-straight premier 450 class victory, takes over the class points lead; Deegan takes 250 WSX o/a lead as well

The one-two punch of Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross superstars Cooper Webb (450) and Haiden Deegan (250 WSX) was in full display this past weekend at Texas’ AT&T Stadium as the two nailed the three moto Triple Crown format victories in their respective classes. And, in doing so, both took control of the overall points leads in their classes after seven rounds of 450 class racing and five rounds of 250 WSX racing to boot!

In addition, joining Deegan on the 250 WSX class podium with an excellent evening of racing that equated to his best finish of the year was Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Michael Mosiman who placed 3rd.

Starting with Webb, the veteran 450 class racer bounced back from a uncharacteristic 6th place run in the opening moto of the Triple Crown, winning motos #2 & #3 to total eight points in the Olympic-style scoring format. This put Webb ahead of Suzuki’s Ken Roczen (nine points) and KTM’s Chase Sexton (ten points). In addition, with the Texas SX win Webb, who was tied with Sexton heading into Saturday, now holds the overall 450 class points lead after seven rounds of racing, 146-141 ahead of Sexton.

Said Webb: “I didn’t feel I was the best guy tonight. But I put myself in good positions, I guess, and made the most of it. It’s crazy. Statistically here I’ve had a lot of success. It’s awesome.”

Webb, who’s won the Texas SX round six times in the last seven races, was the benefactor on Saturday of a couple last lap mistakes by Sexton that gave him (Webb) the overall win with a 6-1-1 three moto effort.

Rounding out the top ten in 450 race with a real good run in 4th place overall was Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Justin Cooper. Cooper had two podium finishes (2nd in the opening moto and 3rd in the second moto). And just a click out of the top ten on account of an unforced tip over in the sand and a get together with rival Justin Barcia (Gas Gas) was Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson in 11th.

In 250 WSX racing, Deegan put up a statement effort at AT&T Stadium, winning the first two motos and placing 2nd, behind Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha teammate Cole Davies, in the third moto to take the overall with four points – the lowest winning result total of any class.

“I’m going to keep working,” said a motivated Deegan after the race. “Keep getting better is all I can work on.”

For Mosiman, who has improved his results consecutively in each of the first five 250 WSX rounds, the podium finish was definitely a high point for the 2025 season thus far. “There’s a sense of relief,” said Mosiman, who podiumed in the first two motos (2nd & 3rd) and placed 7th in the third moto for 3rd overall on the night. “So much work put in and so many people who believed in me at times when I didn’t believe in myself. To get back to this place… to get back on the podium.”

Rounding out the top ten for Monster Energy in the 250 WSX class was Garrett Marchbanks (Pro Circuit/Kawasaki), who put up a 3rd place podium finish in Moto 2 to take 5th overall (7-3-5). Davies would place 7th overall, going 4-17-1.

Notes & Quotes

  • Double No. 1 Red Plates for Monster Energy coming out of the Texas SX with Webb winning, breaking a tie for the overall 450 class lead with Sexton and Deegan winning, overtaking Julien Beaumer (KTM) for the top 250 WSX spot.
  • “Justin Cooper was The Man. Not only this race, but the second race. Just getting not only great starts, but just riding well.” – NBC announcer Ricky Carmichael’s thought on Cooper’s evening in Texas.
  • Only three points separated Deegan, Beaumer and Jordon Smith (Triumph) heading into the Texas round at AT&T Stadium. Deegan would go down in the sand on the opening moto, then came railing all the way back to win it – from laying on the ground. Smith would also hit the deck hard, leaving the race on a (precautionary) stretcher with reported rib injuries.
  • The thick sand section at AT&T Stadium foreshadowed some problems for racers, capturing a number in practice, then grabbing Anderson in the opening 450 moto. “The sand claimed guys all day along and all night long.” – added Carmichael.
  • “Holy shit. I won, right?” – NBC cameras overhearing an elated, though briefly confused Webb at the podium.
  • Second 250 moto, Deegan started about as far back in the pack as you could, then came back for the victory. Added Carmichael: “He (Deegan) was on another level tonight.”
  • Davies was also on point, taking on the burly AT&T Stadium whoop pad better than any other racer in the class, which allowed him to come through the pack in Moto 3 to win it.
  • “That’s what he said. This is just the beginning.” – NBC announcer Jason Weigandt on Mosiman’s sequential improvement in each of the five 250 WSX rounds this season.
