Growing up in the gang-related environment of Los Angeles, fighting was a constant part of reality for Daniel Rodriguez. On the streets and during stints in prison, Rodriguez had no choice but to fight for survival. After initially training as a boxer, he finally discovered mixed martial arts as a way to break the cycle of street crime and incarceration in his mid-twenties. “I just wanted to be able to protect myself. I took that into the work ethic that I carry today. That, and not being scared of anybody,” said Rodriguez as a guest on Monster Energy’s UNLEASHED podcast. He also found a true calling in combat sports: After kick-starting his professional MMA career in 2015, ‘D-Rod’ rose through the ranks of promotions such as Bellator, King of the Cage, and Combat Americas. The purple belt in Brazilian jiujitsu also won the Smash Global Welterweight Championship on the way to the top. Taking things to the next level, Rodriguez made his promotional debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2020. Right out the gate, he commenced to build a series of wins against top contenders – and he’s far from finished. A lifelong student of the game with a tireless work ethic, Rodriguez is here to make his mark on the UFC. Are you watching closely?
