2016 HALO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW – EVIL GENIUSES

Mar 152016

After months of waiting, the Halo World Championship is finally here. 16 teams from around the world will compete for their share of a record breaking $2.5 million prize pool, the largest pot that Halo has seen in its entire history. Of the 8 North American teams qualified for the event, one stands tall above the competition: Evil Geniuses (EG). Evil Geniuses Halo Historically, Evil Geniuses have been a team founded on their legacy of greatness. The former HCS champions were a squad of respected veterans, with over a dozen years of combined competitive play. The team had dominated the Halo 2: Anniversary scene for its entirety and were flying high going into Halo 5. But then the unthinkable happened just weeks into the season. Lxthul, the team’s longtime anchor, jumped ship to sign with Counter Logic Gaming (CLG), setting off the great North American roster shuffle. Now, EG are a fusion of the old guard and young blood. While they retained the core of the team -- Snipedown, Lunchbox and Roy -- the Boys in Blue picked up a rising star who had been left teamless by the roster swap: Commonly, formerly of Renegades. The young gun experienced a trial by fire at the X Games, making his debut with the team just a week after signing with EG. Despite a rocky start, the rookie performed admirably and helped EG win X Games Gold. Though they were unable to secure a victory at the North American Regionals, the performance was impressive and showed a bright future for the squad at Worlds this weekend.
