For round five we return to Maritzburg Club which is a venue that has a long history of hosting Motocross Nationals and it will certainly put on a show once again this year. Spectators are in for a treat with the championships so competitive and the points so close.
The biggest upset undoubtedly coming into this round is the injury of Husqvarna Racing’s Matthew ‘Maddy’ Malan at round four. There will be renewed interest at what will take place in the MX2 class in Pietermartizburg with Maddy absent. Alfie Cox Motul KTM Racing’s Bradley Cox will definitely be in the mix once again but this time with a home town advantage. Richard van der Westhuizen will keep Husqvarna Racing’s hopes high for a championship and we all know he has what it takes to make that happen but Tintswalo Out of Africa Racing Yamaha’s David Goosen who took over the points lead at round four definitely won’t give up without a fight. GAC Laser Ace Sports’ Anthony Raynard had an amazing race at round four and another good outing for him in Maritzburg will definitely excite things once again going into round 6.
In the premier MX1 class it is anyone’s game at this stage but Tristan Purdon from Tinstwalo Out of Africa Yamaha has fought hard to keep his points lead since round one. Red Bull KTM’s Kerim Fitz-Gerald, Richard van der Westhuizen and David Goosen will certainly push Tristan until the very last moment and time will tell if the rookie can keep holding them off and keep putting in solid results. Grainger Racing’s Damon Strydom made a big push in round four and despite being 30 points back, another good day for him could change things up even more.
