Tyla Rattray

Tyla comes back into the Monster Energy and Kawasaki families for 2015 re-igniting associations that begun in 2009 and ran up to last year. This strong-willed and hard-working South African is part of the small elite group of athletes to have claimed an FIM Motocross World Championship (MX2 in 2008) and also scaled the top of AMA podiums. Rattray, now 29 and hitting 30 this November, is a force of experience that Kawasaki’s factory team in MXGP were keen to tap into it this season; the longest ever in the history of the FIM series. Hailing from Durban but now a father of two with partner Samantha, Rattray has made a home in the USA and aside from being a renowned figure in the motocross world he is also famed for constantly defying the frustrations of injury to bounce back and post notable results. He had an unhappy time on the Husqvarna in 2014 (two broken fingers requiring surgery) but has already found his groove in pre-season laps and tests on the KX450F. Together with Ryan Villopoto on the distinctive green bikes Rattray will undoubtedly be one of the main players in MXGP for what will only be his second attempt at the premier class.
