On Saturday night, October 10, 2020, in the Clean Harbors 200 at Kansas Speedway, 19-year-old Halie Rochelle Deegan lined up for, competed in, and completed her very first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race where she met the checkered flag slotted-in at 16th on the timing and scoring monitors.
"Oh man, I think my goal was just to finish the race,” pointed out the 2020 ARCA Rookie of the Year competitor upon crawling from the No. 17 DGR-Crosley Ford. “It‘s crazy compared to ARCA racing how intense this racing is, how competitive it is. You‘re trying to block one guy while pass another and next thing you know, you‘ve got two guys blowing by you if you don‘t make a successful pass. It‘s a lot tougher racing, but I think we definitely had a successful day.”
Successful it was as during the halfway point of the Clean Harbors 200 it was announced (while she was in the Truck!) that Hailey Deegan would compete full-time in the 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for Monster Energy and the DGR-Crosley outfit. This brings us smack right up to the month of February and what will be the opening round of the new Truck season set for this Friday evening at Daytona International Speedway. Deegan’s full-on arrival in the NASCAR big leagues, it’s how soon is now time as the California-born teenager looks to get things started in a big way on the fabled and bleached-out high banks of Daytona International Speedway. Packing up her gear bag for the short jet rider south to the Sunshine State, on Wednesday evening, Monster Energy tracked down the rookie F-150 pilot and checked in on just what will come next.
