Also known as the ‘Highlight’, Justin Gaethje is the type of fighter that defies expectations. Gaethje began wrestling at the tender age of 4 in his native Safford, Arizona. His superior grappling skills earned him two state championships in high school, before becoming an All-American NCAA Division wrestler at the University of Northern Colorado. On paper, this makes Gaethje a perfect candidate for a takedown and submissions expert in the octagon. Except he thinks differently! Since making his MMA debut in the World Series of Fighting (WSOF), Gaethje has scored more knockouts and technical KOs than most of his peers. After brutalizing opponents until claiming the WSOF Lightweight Championship in 2013, he defended the strap five times – with all victories earned via TKO! Gaethje’s superlative record continued once he joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2017 and started challenging the world’s greatest fighters. After setting a record by earning at least one fight night bonus in each of his first seven appearances, he briefly held the title as the Interim UFC Lightweight Champion.
