MXoN 70: Maggiora készülhet a Motocross varázslatra

A világ legnagyobb és legkarizmatikusabb egynapos motoros versenye nem is találhatott volna jobb helyet 70. születésnapja ünneplésére. A Motocross of Nations [MXoN] Maggiora Park dombjain talált otthonra, Milánótól északra. A MXoN mindenhonnan vonza a motocross szerelmeseit, hogy országuknak drukkolhassanak. A világ minden tájáról érkeznek a csapatok, több mint 35 ország képviselteti magát a motocross ünnepén. Maggiora már önmagában is különleges. Sokak szerint itt kelt életre az amerikai motocross az 1986-os feltámadásuk után, és vált „motocross nagyhatalommá”. Maggiora az évek alatt viszont eltűnt az éterből, egészen 2012-es felújításáig, ami után az MXGP és az FIM Motocross World Championship is visszatért 2013-ban.

Az elmúlt fél évtizedben a Nations látogatottsága elérte a 80.000, hatalmas parádéval, hihetetlen hangulattal és igazi nemzetközi szurkolótömeggel. Maggiora ismét egy igazán különleges napot hozhat nekünk, hasonlót a 12 hónappal ezelőtt Franciaországban átéltekhez.

A szinte egyetlen csapat szinten űzött komoly motorsport verseny szabályai nagyon egyszerűek. Minden ország a három legjobb versenyzőjét választja, akik három, harminc perces és két körös fordulót is. A legalacsonyabb pontszámot elérő csapat pedig egy igen különleges kupával térhet haza, ami az egyik legfontosabb, ami egy versenyző polcán lehet.

For the last two years Team France have been the trio to beat. Injury to Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Dylan Ferrandis counts the flamboyant ‘4’ out of the running but the champions can still count on 2015 MXGP No.1 Monster Energy Yamaha’s Romain Febvre and Kemea Yamaha’s Benoit Paturel (3rd in the MX2 FIM Motocross World Championship this term). 2016 MXGP World Champion Tim Gajser will be in action and judging by the fantastic fuss generated by the Slovenian fans at MXGP this year (coupled with the relatively short distance from their country) then it will be impossible to miss the factory HRC ‘243’ even if his squad stand little chance of making the overall podium.

Team USA, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Holland and Great Britain all have a potent mix of motocross talent to be right at the sharp end on Sunday. In fact Maggiora is even more enticing due to the lack of an outright favourite and those sat on the steep Italian banks are in for an intense and unpredictable treat.

 

Above all the Nations is a celebration of passion and fandom for a sport and activity that often provides millions around the world with their first taste of motorcycling. For one weekend (practice and qualification on Saturday) then the eyes of the off-road motorbike racing community will be drawn to one place.
