Goodwood Festival of Speed 2016

Jun 272016

The most prestigious motorsport event on the UK’s Calender, Goodwood Festival of Speed was back for 2016 and it did not disappoint. This year celebrated BMW’s centenary year as a manufacturer, which was highlighted by the enormous sculpture outside Goodwood house, setting the high standard for the rest of the festival. With stands and exhibitions from every manufacturer you could imagine, hill climb races, action sport shows, car demonstrations and even a chance to ride in a helicopter this year's event had something for everyone.

This years theme was ‘Full Throttle the endless pursuit of power’ and Monster Energy brought that in full force with legends such as World Champion Drifter, Formula Drift Champion and D1 Grand Prix Champion Vaughn Gittin Jr, FIA World Rallycross Championship racer Liam Doran, European Drift legend Steve Baggsy Biagioni, Gymkhana champion Luke Woodham, and drift and demo hotshot Buttsy Butler.

Head Hoonigan Ken Block was there charging in his Ford Fiesta ST RX 43.

‘This is my fourth time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.  I really enjoy myself every time I come here because I get to see so much amazing equipment not only new but historic like the old F1 cars, old DTM cars, rally cars. So for me being a motorsport enthusiast it’s amazing to come and not only drive my car but have fun interacting with the fans and see all the other great classic cars and drivers.’

Some of the UK's best were also there to participate in the historic hill climb event. Coming 4th on the first day, Liam Doran knew he could push himself and the car further.

We were 4th on the first day, which I was happy with as I could have pushed a lot more but then in the rain today we were the fastest. My car works really well in the rain because of it being a rally cross car so I was able to go off the track a little and use some extra space and it’s fairly stable in the rain so I am happy, really happy.

Doran topped the time sheets of the ‘ultimate rally car’ class with finishing speed of 124.3mph and a time of 50.5

This year also boasted appearances from Ricky Carmicheal, Alex Lowes, Tom Sykes, John McGuinness and F1 legends Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton!

Sam Reynolds was also here on top form, throwing down epic tricks in the GAS arena.

‘Goodwood is amazing, I have never been before, It’s cool to be here for all four days as there is so much to see! I have been working in the Gas arena this weekend, we have some FMX guys, BMX guys and us on the mountain bikes’

For many this event is really the epitome of the motorsports world. Showcasing some of the worlds best machinery and highlighting the respect between the athletes, celebrities and the fans. Ken Block summed this year’s event up perfectly,

‘For me it’s not about the driving, the driving is a bonus, being able to see all these amazing cars and interact with so many great drivers from all over the world, that’s what makes this event really cool.’
