ALEX LOWES IS GEARING TO TAKE ON THE 2016 WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP

So, what has changed from last year? For 2016, Lowes will be piloting a factory-backed Yamaha YZF-R1 – a motorcycle he feels is capable of reaching the top step of the podium frequently. “Unfortunately (over the past two seasons) I haven’t had a package that could run at the front every week, but I have learnt so much. I think you learn more through the difficult times and this is going to be a big benefit going into this year. I know the guys I`m racing with and I know the level of their riding and their bikes. I am confident of being able to mix it up front with them every week when the YZF-R1 is ready!” exclaimed Lowes.

A very optimistic answer that shows the maturity Lowes holds.  This attitude is what has allowed him to acquire a strong arsenal of results, consisting of a British Superbike Championship in 2013, and three podiums throughout his WorldSBK career. Determination to be the best is a major prerequisite, something that Lowes feels he possess both positively and negatively.

“My strongest point as a racer can also be my weakest point - my mental strength and determination. I am determined to be the best I can be, but this can make it difficult when you don`t have the machinery to win, as you can be too hard on yourself! Being on the new motorcycle for this year though, I feel as though I’ll be able to channel all my energy and focus towards winning. I would say my natural speed and ability to go fast is a very strong point,” said Lowes.

“One would easily identify Lowes as having a humble surface with an underlying theme of determination and confidence. Traits that are quite similar to what fellow Monster Energy athlete Valentino Rossi possesses. Coincidently, Lowes identifies Rossi as someone he is heavily inspired by. “I would say Valentino provides me with the most inspiration, for everything he has done to grow his sport. Being nine-time world champ over many, many, years is incredible”. With round one of the 2016 WorldSBK championship commencing at the world-renowned Phillip Island circuit, Lowes enters with a favourable mindset, as the Australian event is his favourite on the calendar. “I love Phillip Island in Australia. The whole race week is fantastic, the people and the atmosphere are great, and the track is really awesome,” finished Lowes.When asked of his goals for the future, Lowes simply said: “I want to be World Champion in SBK”.
