After a succesful start of a season on Losinj island in Croatia, Unior DH Cup moved to Mariborsko Pohorje, where we recently had the opportunity to see last year's WC winner Amaury Pierron and other Monster Energy athletes. .
Saturday's trainings went rather well. Track was dry in the beginning and got wet by slight rain shower late in the afternoon, what made Sunday's riding a bit more challenging. Morning semi finals were wet and slippery. as expected, Jure Zabjek finished as the fastest one with 3:16,31 minutes, what was approximately 12 seconds behind his performance at World Cup few weeks ago. Luka Berginc, last year's overall UDC winner came back after his shoulder injury and ended as second, while Rudi Pintar got third.
Luckily track got dry for the afternoon finale, so tactics, whether to change rain tyres or not came into play. Everyone was way faster than in semis. Zabjek was 2 and half seconds faster, what was enough to take home his second consecutive win in this year's series.
Rudi was 9 seconds and 12 hundreds slower than the winner, while Ales Virtic, who mostly lives and races in Austria finished as third. This was his first appearance in UDC series since 2017.
Organisers were happy with the outcome of second stop at Mariborsko Pohorje and are already looking forward to the next one!
