A7X Closing Houston Open Air

Jul 242017

Finally! The official lineup for the second-annual Monster Energy Houston Open Air has been announced! There were a few changes to the previous lineup that are exciting to see. The festival kicks off on Saturday, October 14 at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, TX and continues to Sunday, October 15. Over 25 of the top rock artists will perform during the two day event on two different stages holding a possible 16,500 rock fans. The lineup includes Five Finger Death Punch, Stone Sour, Marilyn Manson, Mastodon, Halestorm, In This Moment, Gojira, Of Mice & Men, Suicidal Tendencies, and more.

The weekend truly begins with the Official Monster Energy Houston Open Air Pre-Party at Warehouse Live in Houston on Friday, October 13. Between The Buried And Me will be bringing their “Colors” Ten Year Anniversary Tour to Houston, and the night will also feature performances from support acts The Contortionist, Polyphia, and Toothgrinder. Get ready for the festival at the pre-party with some high-grade shredders like The Buried and Me!.

Tom Morello from Prophets of Rage said, “We are excited to be rocking the Houston Open Air festival October 14-15. Prophets of Rage will now make Houston RAGE AGAIN on Saturday, October 14 and Avenged Sevenfold have stepped up by taking our spot on Sunday's lineup! Looking forward to seeing you all raging in that Houston pit."

Here are the changes to the lineup:

Prophets of Rage will be moved from the headlining spot on Sunday night to the Saturday night headlining position to make room for Avenged Sevenfold! Avenged Sevenfold is now the headliner to cap off this year’s festival, which comes as a bit of a surprise because of last year’s show. Danny Wimmer presents has brought them back to the great city of Houston for another Monster Energy Open Air, which can be considered a rematch between the rock band and mother nature. At the 2016 monster energy Houston Open air, Avenged Sevenfold was only a headliner up until their set time at which they never performed. Intense thunderstorms and lightning led a shutdown of the event and thus, their set. It was a huge disappointment, but they are back this year to perform at the festival for the first time.

Danny Wimmer, Founder of Danny Wimmer Presents, said, "Avenged Sevenfold was the storm that we wanted to close out the first-ever Houston Open Air, but it's not the storm that we got. We've been working for a long time to get Avenged Sevenfold back after last year's weather prevented them from playing. We're excited to have this second chance to bring the spectacle of A7X to the Houston Open Air stage on Sunday night. And Saturday is going to be amazing, with Prophets of Rage joining Five Finger Death Punch, Marilyn Manson, Halestorm, Gojira and more."

Some other activities besides moshing are most definitely present at the festival. If you want to get out of the pit to regain you witts and energy, then head to the Monster Energy viewing deck, where there will be free sampling and other exclusive opportunities. Those opportunities can range from artists signings to giveaways, keep checking in! Also, The Monster Energy Houston Open Air Eats area will feature a Texas-sized food experience underscoring Houston’s emergence as a great American food city.
