Brendan Fairclough Storms into 2nd at Crankworx

Jun 282016

This weekend saw the 2nd stop of the CrankWorx triple crown of events and its first time in Les Gets France. As the event ramped up expectations were higher than ever, but it would be a battle to the bitter end as thunderstorms and torrential rain battered the mountains all week long.

“History has taught us that Brendog’s ability to tame even the muddiest of courses put him as a firm favourite for the podium in France.”

With conditions proving too harsh for slopestyle to take place in its traditional format, all eyes were on the Downhill race come Saturday and Sunday. A new course, freshly tracked as the weekend went on would see it turn into a battle field of foot deep ruts and running water come Sunday.

Hailing from the Surrey Hills in the UK, it goes against all odds that Brendan Fairclough would thrive in these conditions but history has taught us that Brendog’s ability to tame even the muddiest of courses put him as a firm favourite for the podium in France.

Seeding runs put Brendon in to 3rd place come race day on Sunday. Monster Energy team mate Troy Brosnon had been on great form all season, and with a solid top 10 position, 9th on the day would prove he can handle even the harshest of conditions. Local rider Remi Thirion had set the pace earlier in finals and all eyes were on the UK’s Brendog as he dropped in. Just 2 seconds back at the first split he charged his way down the hill nailing rut after rut in the treacherous conditions. A wet and wild run would see him enter in to the finish straight having lost no time and crossed the finish line in to 2nd place. With 2 riders left to come and both being taken down by the course, Crankworx les Gets was a momentous return to the podium for the fans favourite Brendon Fairclough and a sign of things to come as the World Cup series continues in Lenzerheide Switzerland in just 2 week’s time.

The next stop on the Crankworx Calendar will be Whilster, Canada. Whistler is the home of Crankworx and an all out festival of Mountain biking. Slopestyle will return in full force with Monster Athletes Sam Pilgrim, Sam Reynolds, Max Fredriksson and Cam Zink ready to throw down in front of thousands.
