Carpenter Claims 2nd in the World Cup Overall

Sep 102016

The former World Champ had previously conquered the World Cup Series claiming victory in 2014 and all eyes were on her coming in to the 2016 season. The battle for the top step would be tough however with the competition stronger than ever.

Opening the Season with 3rd in Lourdes, it was a strong start to the year. Continuing her podium run into Cairns, Fort William and Leogang would firmly put Manon in 2nd in the overall points series but rival Tracey Hannah was pushing hard in 3rd. The series would head to Switzerland and Canada before closing out in Andorra.

Fighting to find her pace it would come down to the final round in Andorra.  Battling the rutted, dusty steeps of Vallnord, Carpenter held on for 4th on the day which was enough to secure her 2nd place in the World Cup Overall Series.

““I took 4th on the day which was not what I was looking for but 2nd in the overall series, I'll take that. It was a battle to the end with Tracey but my consistency throughout the season paid off, Next stop World champs!” ”

The World Cup Season may have come to an end but there is still one more race to go, the UCI World Championships. Manon is a previous world champ and will be looking to reclaim her title in Val Di Sole, Italy on the 11th of September – keep up to date with Manon and follow her on instagram @ManonCarpenter
