May 132016

Legendary skate contest from nineties is back! The biggest event in Slovakia called Cassovia Skate Cup is getting closer! On 14th of May, we will all meet in front of Kulturpark in Košice, where will the skateboarding madness break out. Cassovia Skate Cup celebrates 25th anniversary since the first event this year so you can look forward for a huge party. As last year, there will be custom-made skate ramps that will create the unique concept of this competition. Checkout interview with one of the organisers, brother of our rider Rišo Tury, who will of course take part as well, Juraj Tury:

First Cassovia skate cups took place at the beginning of the 90s. Can you tell us something about history?

Cassovia skate cup was founed by Jaro Kudlovský, who brought first skateboard to Košice back in 1990s. The first event under this name took place at the spot in front of the “White House” nowadays called Košice city council in 1991. In 1992 it took place at the Ladislav Troják hockey stadium. The last Cassovia skate cup in that period took place in 1998.

Why did you decide to renew the Cassovia skate cup?

Our civic association Ťahanovská skate crew have been organizing smaller competitions in our city. We wanted to push skateboarding in the front. Cassovia had fantastic reputation in our town and so we decided to revive it. For the first time in 2014, we failed to finish the contest due to rain. A year later, in 2015, we have revived the legendary Cassovia skate Cup in the right terms.

Are you building the ramps on your own?

The ramps are custom made by us. We are always trying to create something new to set the level higher. . Kulturpark is the best place for skateboarding in Slovakia. WE are very happy that it is in our town.

What can the audience look for this year?

This year, we have invited skateboarders from France, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic. The audience can look forward to an international skateboarding in a unique space. There will be also backstage space with food and drinks, graffiti jam and the whole event will be closed by crazy after party at Collosseum.

Do you have any tip for a winner?

There are so many possible winners, I am curious myself, who is it going to bet his year.
