Only a few days remain until the 15th annual Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards will take over IndigO2 at The O2 Arena in London. On Monday, June 12 the massive night of heavy music and celebration will be hosted by none other than Monster Energy’s Chris Jericho, Fozzy frontman and WWE star.
Fozzy frontman and WWE megastar Chris Jericho will come straight from his appearance at this year’s Download to host the event – and he says he can’t wait to attend what will be an incredible night. “Metal Hammer is back and so is Chris Jericho! And it's gonna be amazing to host the comeback party on the 15th anniversary of the Golden Gods!” Jericho quoted.
With some uncertainty of Metal Hammer’s future late last year, editor Merlin Alderslade recently commented on the near demise of the publication: “In December we were told that Metal Hammer may never exist again. What happened in the weeks and months after didn't just show the power and strength of our scene when we come together, but showed the world that Metal Hammer is a central part of our community and can still make amazing things happen like no other magazine can.” On the publication and event’s comeback Alderslade added: "To say we're excited about bringing back the greatest heavy music awards show on the planet is a big understatement. We have an amazing line-up planned which will be announced shortly, but the important thing is that this will remain true to what the Golden Gods are and always have been: an awards show by metal fans, for metal fans. Let's party."
Most of the awards were fan-voted, while a few will be editorial-chosen on the night. These awards include Riff Lord presented by Century Media, Defender Of The Faith presented by Orange Amplification, Album Of The Year, Icon, Inspiration, Spirit Of Hammer and The Golden God. Monster Energy’s own Jonathan Davis and Korn, While She Sleeps and Bury Tomorrow are all up for well-deserved awards and we wish them luck.
