Deegan At Wheatland

Monster Energy racer Brian Deegan took an instant liking to the newest track on the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series schedule in Wheatland, Missouri. In practice sessions 2, and 3 on Friday, Deegan was clicking off some of the fastest laps seen all weekend in the Pro-2 class. The Wheatland track is a unique animal having 9 turns, huge tabletop jumps, an over-under section where the track crosses, and a rhythm section to test every aspect of the driver’s abilities. The longest track in the series, every lap was a mental and physical ordeal; exactly what Deegan is known to excel at.

After taking the green flag for round 7 on Saturday, Deegan was running 3rd when he saw his chance to strike. While the 1st and 2nd place trucks got together, Deegan pounced; passing them both for the lead. As the laps went by, there was plenty of carnage taking place on the track, but Deegan was out front running fast and clean. Even after several re-starts for caution flags, nobody was able to challenge Deegan out front. He went on to take his second win of the season while running the fastest pro-2 race lap of the weekend; a 01:18.499.

“We were running very fast all weekend,” said Deegan, “The track was great, and we are very happy to take home the win. Number one is where we need to be!” Round 8 looked like a repeat of round 7 with Deegan jumping out to an early lead while the rest of the field played bumper cars behind him. On lap 8 of 10, mechanical gremlins got the best of him, ending his race. Deegan’s Monster Energy teammate Jeremy McGrath went on to take the top spot in round 8, but nobody was able to match Deegan’s pure speed during competition all weekend.
