Jonas Folger at the 2017 Grand Prix of Czech Republic

Diary from the weekend of Monster Energy GP of Czech Republic 2017

Aug 082017

MotoGP in Brno has a long tradition and is the ultimate motorsport event of the year. And of course, I couldn’t miss that!! Do you want to have a little insight into what I was doing behind the scenes and see the whole thing from a Monster point of view? Continue reading… Hope you will enjoy it!

Arriving to Brno on a hot sunny morning a day before the official start of the Grand Prix, however this year, my first steps are not aimed at the Masaryk circuit but Brno Reservoir, a dam on the Svratka River right outside the city of Brno.

The all week heatwave doesn’t seem to stop so by my arrival at 10 am there is already over 30 degrees. The garden of the Fish Restaurant on shore is pretty busy as there are gathering motorsport fans, journalists and also spectators from the nearby camp. And what was all the fuss about? Our riders are having a little Jet Surf Race! Wondering what a Jet surf is? Well it‘s a “surf board“ powered by two-stroke internal combustion engine and it was actually invented in Brno.

Riders including Cal Crutchlow, Johann Zarco or Jonas Folger, are having hell lot of fun and are showing the cheering audience that they can master anything powered by engines. Our Monster Energy DJ is playing great tunes all day long and fans are enjoying the competition as well as ice cold Monster drinks.

As I am getting closer to the popular tribune C, I know, that this year is going to be special. The huge Monster Energy rig is standing right on the entrance of the place and is even bigger than I could imagine. The Rig is already filled with people, enjoying displayed motorcycles, MotoGP console games and watching the qualification.

Time for the Rig Riot!! As the Monster Girls are gathering on both sides of the Rig and on the bridge, people are going totally nuts! DJ plays some pretty wild mix and hundreds of fans are cheering for Monster Girls, dancing along and trying to catch a shirt or a sticker. What a show!

Saturday morning. It’s absolutely boiling! Masaryk Circuit is already full of people and I am rushing to the Tech3 hospitality for an interview with our special guest UFC and Wrestling legend Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. It is his first time in the Czech Republic as well as the first time at MotoGP, so he is pretty exciting about everything and the interview goes pretty smoothly. Stay tuned for the interview on our website!

Running back to the Monster Rig way through the crowd, to catch another Rig Riot, this time really special one, including Tech3 riders and Rampage himself.

Full house! Riders and Rampage are throwing their signed hero cards to the fans with assistance of the Monster Girls, everyone is having a good time!

The finals! Weather changes dramatically, around 20 degrees and rain. Same as the last year… What a pity! It is uncomfortable for the riders as well as for the audience, but nothing stops them to enjoy this day. Wet track conditions challenged the riders of all categories, however during the MotoGP class race, the sky clears up and it gets really warm again. Big ups to all the riders for managing to finish this race with good results, especially to Alex Marquez for second place in Moto2, Aron Canet for third place in Moto3 and Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi taking third and fourth place in MotoGP. Last Rig Riot, and it’s a wrap! Can’t wait for the next year!!!
