The webcast will allow viewers from around the world the unique opportunity to watch the world’s best freestyle motocross riders compete in the first ever Monster Energy FMX High Rollers contest prior to the Monster Energy Cup that takes place at the UNLV Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, NV on October 15.
In addition to being able to watch the live feed, Monster Energy will offer fans additional content on their social media channels to ensure an inclusive viewing experience, while connecting viewers with the athletes and all of the action from this year’s new FMX event, which was added as a highlight of this year’s Pit Party sideline event to the most spectacular supercross event.
With a total prize purse of $100,000 the Monster Energy FMX High Rollers contest will see 30 of the world’s best freestyle motocross experts – including riders from Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and the US – battle it out in three competition formats: Dirt Shark Biggest Whip, Freestyle Motocross (FMX), and FMX Quarterpipe Big Air. Further upping the ante, the 3.5-hour contest will act as the official qualifier for the Moto X Best Whip and Freestyle events at X Games Minneapolis 2017.
Course highlights include a 120’ ramp, three 13’ quarters, two (new) 18’ quarters for the quarterpipe big air event, two standard FMX ramps and a super kicker.
Kicking off the FMX action from 1:30PM – 2:15PM, the Dirt Shark Biggest Whip competition will narrow a field of 18 riders down to three finalists going head-to-head for the most spectacular aerial stunts, also known as “whips.” Top competitors include Monster Energy team riders Axell Hodges, Edgar Torronteras, Bryce Hudson, Harry Bink, Kris Foster, Andre Villa, Taka Higashino and Jeremy Stenberg. Former winners Tom Parsons and Jarryd McNeil will also be competing.
“I’m pumped for the FMX High Rollers Contest at Monster Cup,” said Axell Hodges. It is so sick that Monster Energy and X Games teamed up to make this FMX event happen with a live Webcast. Been Slayin Ramps training to win the Dirt Shark Biggest Whip contest and the Quarterpipe Big Air is going to be gnarly.”
Starting at 2:30PM to 4:00PM, the Freestyle Motocross (FMX) event will see 13 riders attack an obstacle course with their best tricks during two 75-second runs each. Competing for the $30,000 prize for first place – the day’s highest FMX payout – will be Monster Energy’s Blake Williams, Harry Bink, Nate Adams, and Taka Higashino, the first Japanese freestyle motocross rider to win a medal at the X Games. Jackson Strong, Adam Jones, David Rinaldo and more will also be competing in the FMX event.
“I am stoked to be competing in the Monster Energy High Rollers competition, and am excited for the big FMX track and big-name riders who will be competing in this contest,” said Taka Higashino.
Wrapping things up, the first ever FMX Quarterpipe Big Air competition will feature 13 riders in pursuit of the day’s highest aerial from 4:00PM to 5:00PM. The rider who successfully boosts the highest quarterpipe air will ride away with the victory for this inaugural event. X Games Huckmeter technology will be implemented into the webcast to record heights and scores for this competition. Monster Energy riders to compete in this event are Taka Higashino, Axell Hodges and Kris Foster.
