Following two days of incredible V8 Supercar action at the famed Phillip Island circuit, 2015 drivers champion, Mark ‘Frosty’ Winterbottom, has catapulted his way up the 2016 rankings, and now sits a mere 24 points out of the lead.Saturday’s race was greeted with a cold, overcast day at the picturesque Southern Victorian circuit, with teams developing a one-stop strategy for the 27-lap affair. Frosty sat third on the grid, however would cross the line in fifth following a conservative drive.

The freshman to the main game, Cam Waters, drove his Monster Energy Ford Falcon to 18th in race one, as tyre degradation played a massive factor in the 21-year-olds race. James ‘JC’ Courtney struggled with car dramas too, acquiring a cracked header on his Holden Racing Team Commodore and would finish in 21st by virtue.

The sun beckoned early at Phillip Island during Sunday’s proceedings, with drivers, teams and spectators treated to a brilliant Australian day with temperatures in the early 20’s (degrees).

Frosty once again showed that his Prodrive Racing Australia Ford Falcon was ‘racey’ around the circuit, as he sat on the third row in P5 for the commencement of the race.

However a safety car on lap 39 (of 45) sent the field into absolute pandemonium. Bolstering a mighty attack during the closing four laps, Frosty moved his way into second position and most importantly, in front of championship rivals.

“That was a good race. To be able to finish in second place on what was perhaps not one of our greatest days feels good. Second (position) really was the best outcome we could have asked for today, so we’ll take that and cruise on to Perth,” commented Winterbottom post race.

JC had tremendous pace during Sunday’s race, as he clawed his way through the field from 13th on the grid to seventh by race end. Waters had a troublesome day, as a tire blowout mid way through the race handed the rookie 23rd.
