Hamilton and Solberg crowned champions at FIA gala

For both racers, it was a truly historic occasion. Lewis officially joined the elite club of F1 drivers with three drivers championships, while Petter became motorsports first ever double-World RX champion, making him arguably one of the most successful driver’s in rallycross history. The incredible Mercedes AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team rolled out their all conquering F1 W06 on stage to lift their second successive Constructors` Championship, and congratulate Lewis.

“It’s pretty much impossible to put into words what it means to be a three-time world champion,” said Hamilton. “It is a dream, it’s an incredible feeling and I’m very proud of my family for everything they did to get me here today. I remember how hard my Dad and my Mum worked to make sacrifices for me. It’s been a long, long journey – I’ve been racing for 22 years. This year, winning the race in Austin and sealing the championship there was one of the most special races – there’s a huge sense of pride in what I have achieved.”

After collecting his second consecutive FIA World rallycross drivers title, Petter said: “It’s never easy, it’s a very tough sport, and it’s been a very difficult season when you have so many good drivers around you on track. But now it’s fantastic. “I’m very happy and relaxed! Two World titles, what more can you ask for? It’s a really cool thing to achieve – being a double world champion in rallycross as well as an FIA World champion in two different disciplines (WRC & WorldRX).
