Helsinki Helride 2019 Sunday

Jul 152019

There’s no better time to be alive than at the Helsinki Helride, where skateboarders and skate fans take to the streets of Helsinki, Finland to turn the beautiful architecture into skateable art. Already in its fifth year of creation, after rising like a phoenix from the ashes of the Hookup event back in the day.

The magical city of Helsinki plays host to a heavy line-up of international skaters; Gabriel Fortunato (BRA), Stavros Razis (CL), Dario Mattorollo (AR), DlaminiDlamini (ZA) and plenty more were going hard all week with the likes of local grown talent such as Kevin Baekkel (NO), Sam Beckett (UK) and event Phil Zwijsen (BG) who’s recovering from an op, but was there to act as filming support.

The Helride boys know how to put on an event that appeals to every style of skating, from gnarly wall rides for the skaters with the biggest cojones, to stairsets, banks, ledges and of course the effervescent Suvilahti DIY at the heart of the event. The main day of competition saw thousands of local Finnish skate fans turn up to watch the ultimate Death Race, where last year’s victor Kevin Baekkel went full ham once again to take the glory and a fist full of cash. Nearly every new spot was a ‘cash for tricks’ format, and standout tricks from the week were Dario Mattorollo’s nose blunt and Dlamini’s nollie backside flip down the 12 stairset.

Full highlights will be drop this week, so keep your eyes peeled for the best of the action from Helsinki Helride dropping exclusively on the Monster Energy youtube
