Monster Energy Athlete James Courtney and his HRT team-mate Garth Tander will both pilot the retro livery, inspired by the 1997 HRT VS Commodore, at the Townsville 400.
The old school look is receiving heaps of interest from excited fans and team members all with fond memories of the ‘97 Commodore which steered Brock to his final full time year in the V8 Supercars.
“Driving around Townsville in these colours is an honour given the history behind the HRT VS Commodore and the legend who took it to the top of the podium,” said Courtney. “The ‘97 livery was a work of art put together by HRT designer Peter Hughes and what Peter has re-created nearly 20 years later is simply awesome. “I’m stoked to be tearing up the streets of Townsville in this bad boy and hopefully it’ll give us the edge to take the #22 HRT Commodore to the top of the podium.”
The Townsville 400 is a fast paced, high impact street circuit with the event comprising of two 200km feature races.
Both Courtney and Tander have scored strong results at the circuit including a HRT back-to-back result in 2013 and 2014. The Townsville 400 is the sixth round of the 2015 V8 Supercars Championship and sees the return of the crowd favourite top-10 qualifying shootout on Sunday.
