In the GREEN ROOM with Rolling Loud’s Tariq Cherif

Most successful festival founders don’t have their grandmas to thank for enabling them to launch their careers, but that’s one of the many things that sets Tariq Cherif apart. In this edition of The Green Room, he gives an exclusive interview about the inspiration behind Rolling Loud and the secret to growing it into one of the largest hip hop festivals in the world.

The first official Rolling Loud concert happened in Miami in 2015, during a time when there weren’t any hip-hop-specific festivals in the country. With around 6,500 people attending and artists performing over four stages, Rolling Loud featured School Boy Q, Travis Scott, Action Bronson, Juicy J, Curren$y. It was a lineup of then-emerging stars who would go on to become household names. Many of these artists have returned as the festival has grown and their own stars continued to rise. The Rolling Loud stage has also seen the likes of Travis Scott, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Future, and many more.

Since its inception, Rolling Loud has been about finding new ways to push music forward, from showcasing newer styles of rap to live streaming from their events before it was a thing. Their innovative way of thinking put them in a great position to pivot fast when their 2020 festival in Miami was canceled due to the COVID pandemic.

The team moved fast, setting up four virtual festivals in partnership with Twitch — with five themed shows each week including the Got Bars?, a high-octane freestyle competition sponsored by Monster Energy.

As Rolling Loud has moved out of the pandemic and back into in-person events, Tariq credits their wild success to their dedication to giving their fans the absolute best, as well as the bedrock of artists that have returned year after year, moving their way to the top of the festival flyer.

Rolling Loud Miami 2022 happens in Miami July 21 - 24, featuring Ye, Future, Kendrick Lamar, and many more. Click here to learn more about Rolling Loud!
