Monster Energy congratulates James Gallagher (Strabanimal) on defending Steven Graham via submission in the headliner of Bellator 217 at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland via the Paramount Network. The rising Irish star returned to action in the bantamweight bout in the headliner event taking down Graham at 2:31 of round 1 with a rear-naked choke.
The main event saw the “Strabanimal’s” (7-1) victorious return in his first fight following his surprising first-round KO loss to Ricky Bandejas at Bellator 204 last August.
From the moment Gallagher (8-1 MMA, 5-1 BMMA) caught the first kick he was well on his way to a rebound victory. As seen in the fight, it only took Gallagher four seconds to get a takedown and rapidly move to a full mount before he locked in the rear-naked choke forcing Graham to tap out and give him the win.
In front of a raucous home crowd Gallagher, 22, recovered from his devastating first loss of his career with an impressive win in his Irish homeland after much trash talk from Graham leading up to the fight.
“Dublin! What’s happening! I’m so thankful for everybody standing up for me after a big loss. I’m f—ing back! Look! This is what I’m talking about. I’m very grateful for this opportunity. Thank you,” said Gallagher after his win.
Gallagher was humbled by the standing ovation and dedicated his win to his sick grandfather. Now that Gallagher is back in the win column he said he would accept a fight in the featherweight category for the right amount of money.
