Meet the #RXCartel

Apr 052019

It’s time for a change.

Fast on track and disruptive in the paddock; the RX Cartel have landed, and are bringing the heat to the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship season. Led by hard charging Andreas Bakkerud and Liam Doran, it’s a perfect storm of raw uninhibited talent and sporting heritage.

What’s more the team have the right hardware to bring to the table. Coming armed with two purpose-built 600bhp Audi S1s, Liam and Andreas are settling for nothing less than top step of the podium this season.

From Höljes to Hell, and Canada to Catalunya, the RX Cartel will contest all 10 rounds of the world rallycross championship, and there will be few drivers - if any - capable of matching the speed and style which are the trademark of the team.

Talk is cheap, and one thing is for sure; the RX Cartel will be doing theirs on track, and will leave big smokey elevenses on the asphalt this season.

Name: Andreas Bakkerud

Age: 27

Hometown: Bergen, Norway

Contested: 342 races

Event wins: 6

Podiums: 24

Qualifying wins: 17

World RX points scored: 1095

Who is he? Once the visor comes down, Andreas Bakkerud is one mean, hard charging racer, capable of taking the fight to any driver on the world stage. Having been behind the wheel of a race car and collecting silverware, since the tender age of 15, when he made his Rallycross debut in his home country of Norway. Since then, Andreas has used his serious natural talent behind the wheel to lock in two back to back European titles, as well as a haul of wins in the premier 600bhp Supercar category at both European and World championship level. Arguably his finest moment came in 2016 at his home race in Norway. Bakkerud became the first driver – and remains one of only two drivers in World RX history - to score maximum points on a weekend winning all four qualifying sessions, the semi-final and the final. Last season Bakkerud took five podiums and third place in the championship, and this year he wants more…

Name: Liam Doran

Age: 32

Hometown: Dolton, United Kingdom

Contested: 123 races

Event wins: 0

Podiums: 0

Qualifying wins: 3

World RX points scored: 65

Who is he? Don’t let the official stats fool you. Liam Doran has more rallycross heritage than the world championship itself. Driver, engineer, team boss, multiple X-Games medallist; Doran has been all of these, and has acquired a fearsome reputation on the track, even amongst the sport’s biggest names. Growing up in the shadow of Lydden Hill meant that Liam has been slaying tyres ever since he was 14 years old and acquired a lifetime of experience behind the wheel. Most fans will already know about his meteoric rise through the ranks, locking in early successes in British and European championships, as well as his shock victory at X-Games 17 in Los Angeles. Coming in hot into the RX Cartel for a full season marks Liam’s first complete assault on a World RX season since 2016. Watch this space and hold on tight; Doran is locked and loaded.
