July 11, 2017(Kamloops, British Columbia) After a weekend off, the 2017 CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals resumed, in the deep sands of the Gopher Dunes track, in Southern Ontario, as the Monster Energy Alpinestars Kawasaki team looked to capitalize on the momentum gained by a podium finish at the previous round, in Regina.
Coming off a breakthrough podium finish at Regina, Mike Alessi, was excited to get to the toughest stop on the circuit, the deep sand of Gopher Dunes and he showed that he was ready and motivated by logging the quickest time in qualifying to take the number one spot. He grabbed the holeshot and the early lead in moto one but a mistake knocked him back to fourth and he worked his way back to the podium with a third in moto one. In moto two, another great start let him grab the lead on lap one and he never looked back, leading every lap to take the moto win and his first overall win since 2014. His great ride moves him up to fourth in the MX1 points standings now, as the series hits the half way mark.
In MX2, Jacob Hayes logged the fourth quickest time in qualifying and a solid fifth in moto two. He now sits in seventh in the MX2 standings as the series heads into the second half.
The series now heads to a new stop on the Canadian National circuit, the MX Bon-Conseil, in Notre-Dame-Du-Bon-Conseil, Quebec. For more information on the Canadian National Motocross series, visit www.mxnationals.ca
