Tulsa, Oklahoma – December 2, 2020 – What a way to end the season! Monster Energy congratulates Connor Fields on winning the USA BMX #1 Pro Title at the USA BMX Grand Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, this Sunday. At the iconic BMX racing event contested inside the River Spirit Expo Center from November 28-29, the 28-year-old from Las Vegas, Nevada, emerged on top of a field of the world’s fastest riders to defend his 2019 title and win the championship for the third time in his career.
The USA BMX Grand Nationals were contested for the 22nd time this weekend. Contested amid strict safety rules and social distancing guidelines in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the event attracted a total of 2,750 competitors from 40 states. Ever since the start of the outbreak in spring 2020, the USA BMX association has managed to run over 20 races while working closely with health officials.
In the event’s AA Pro category, defending champion Fields stepped to the winding dirt track inside the River Spirit Expo Center as a favorite. But like every year, Fields and 30 of the fastest pros on the planet needed to earn their way to the finals the hard way. Starting with qualifiers on Friday, the pack battled for top positions through a semi-finals race on Sunday, from which the top eight riders qualified into Sunday’s championship race.
Although Fields happened to qualify into a semi-finals race against the fastest riders in attendance, he managed to take the lead and retain it all the way to the line for the win. This put Fields into Sunday’s main event and give him the best shot to retain his 2019 USA BMX #1 Pro title and try to make it two championships in a row.
