MONSTER EURO TOUR 2022

Apr 202022

The tour van is packed with Monster’s dream team and heading to Europe’s gnarliest skateboarding capitals on a mission to hit up street spots and stack some fire clips. Kicking off in Bristol, home of hills, thrills, some of the most recognisable street spots in the UK, this will be old-school tour vibes as the van hauls itself through a skater’s wish list of cities.

THE SQUAD:

ISHOD WAIR | GABRIEL FORTUNATO | JORGE SIMOES | GIOVANNI VIANNA | MARK ZAPRAZNY | RUNE GLIFBERG | GRANT TAYLOR | JUSTIN SOMMER | AURÉLIEN GIRAUD | KEVIN BARKKEL

Front seat and hot off the catwalk is effortless style king Ishod Wair, joined by Brazilian gapper Gabriel Fortunato, Portuguese workhorse Jorge Simoes. Primitive skate homies Giovanni Vianna and Slovakian ledge technician Marek Zaprazny bring the swagger, while veteran Rune Glifberg and Antihero tour destroyer Grant Taylor come baying for raw concrete.

In case that wasn’t a heavy enough squad, new blood Justin Sommer holds it down on home turf in Germany, along with flat-bar magician Aurélien Giraud. There’s a rumour gnarlord Kevin Baekkel is already camped out under a concrete bowl somewhere.

The plan is simple. Give core skate shops in Bristol, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Athens, Warsaw, Helsinki (in time for the world’s loosest skate fest - Helride), Vienna, and Tel Aviv a bit of dough, and ask them to pimp out a beloved local landmark so it can be shredded six ways from Sunday.

With sage input from core shops, this fast and loose tour is straight out of the 00s when wafts of smoke would float from the organiser’s tent and pros would go missing for DUI days on end. Think Antihero or OG shoe tours, bombing hills in the rain, hometown heroes, pissing off van rentals, acid flashbacks, and pros landing tricks on local spots that go down in folklore.

For a teaser of what’s to come, Bristol’s most hallowed street spot will be getting the Eurogap treatment, and in Helsinki a Neoclassical cathedral will be undergoing an urban intervention in the form of two whopping Monster kickers. But that’s all we will say for now. After months on the road tempers will fray, ankles will become swollen, but at least there’s enough of a winter for time to heal all before we abuse ourselves again.

Barring any mishaps – it’s not guaranteed all our shredders will make it back to the van after each stop - the schedule runs as below. Follow your local skate shop for details on demo timings and street missions. Get time off, get rad, quit your job - just be there for!
