Monster Jam Antwerp - We had a talk with Todd Leduc

Aug 222019

This weekend Monster Jam returns to Antwerp for the first time in 5 years! We already had a talk with Monster Jam legend Todd Leduc about the upcoming madness.

You know what, the athletes are kind of crazy ballerinas. We are out there driving the Monster Jam trucks to their very limit.

Nice for meeting up with Todd! A little flashforward to the weekend. Todd, we did some research and checked out your competition. Well let’s put it this way, they don’t think you’re going to win in Antwerp. What do you have to say about that?

Dude, they are just scared. Whenever a Monster Energy athlete pops up to a show, they are there to do two things. First, give the fans a great show and second, to win. It’s going to be a great event and I can’t wait to get back to Belgium to put up an insane show for the fans.

You have been driving Monster trucks for 8 years now, right? You did some motocross, mountain biking, but what is the reason you wanted to drive those big machines?

Yeah 8 years, it seems like it’s all gone by so fast, but I’m still having a blast. I love driving Monster Jam trucks and I think I was put on this earth to do one thing and one thing only, to drive those Monster trucks.

Yeah, I have done a lot of things and for every sport that I competed in (mountain biking and all kind of motorsports), I have been world champion or at the very top. It just seems like I was abducted with water to Monster Jam. As soon as I got into the driver’s seat, I just felt at home. It’s like a real-life video game, you are out there jumping, doing front flips, back flips and it has been so much fun. It can’t be work, it has to be FUN.

A lot of world and stadium championships have come, and it has been a blast, I’m so lucky to have an awesome fanbase. My number one goal when I began driving Monster Jam trucks, was to become a grave digger and we’re doing it!!!

Can you tell us more about your truck, what makes yours so special?

Our truck is very, very fast and we have very special things that I’m not going to say. But we have a couple of really special partners behind us and a great crew of technicians that work daily on the Monster Jam truck. We have a winning combination and that reflects on my career.

The next competition will be in beautiful Belgium, what can we/ the fans expect from the show?

Coming up in September 7th, we have 2 shows on Saturday and one on Sunday. It’s going to be a lot of action; I really can’t wait. The very first time I ever went to a Monster Jam event in person was in Belgium, so I can’t wait to get back. It has been 8 years since then and it will bring up a lot of memories. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

I’m sure the fans would love to know what goes through your mind when you’re ready for some airtime?

You know what, the athletes are kind of crazy ballerinas. We are out there driving the Monster Jam trucks to their very limit. Honestly, to myself and a few others, it became a normal place. It’s where we want to be, right on the edge of control and balancing and flying through the air, it really is the craziest feeling.

Do you have any strange or crazy ritual before an event?

Usually my deal is that I get into the truck as early as possible and just sit there. Fully belted and becoming one with the truck and stay away from the competition, because I know they want to talk trash. So, I prefer to just sit in my truck and focus and start driving.

Would you like to say anything to your Belgian fans?

I just want to say: It’s going to be a lot of fun! Try to meet the drivers before the show. We have a signature session before, so I would love to see the fans make cool signs and pictures. I really can’t wait; this is one of the coolest stops on our tour and I’m so excited to put up a great show.
I advise everyone to bring some ear protection, to sit back and enjoy.
